Reflecting on today's tutorial
Daisy Jackson / 20/10/2022
Today's session we had group tutorials with Matt and Molly reflecting on the work we have done on our blogs. There was genuine good feedback, however, Matt and Molly both agreed that the Barbara Kruger tryouts were very bold and the drawing contrasted too much with the red text. Molly mentioned how it would be great if I used my own handwriting in the drawing too which I did agree with.
I tried these ideas out:
I first tried out changing the red colour for something that blended in nicely with the background but still stood out. This colour change was more complimentary to the drawing and was easier on the eye. I also decided to play around with moving the text so it didn't cover the horse as much.
I then experimented with my own handwriting like so:
I really love this style instead as it is more subtle and effective. It feels more powerful with the contrast and I love how it overlaps the drawing of the horse. It also makes the viewer look more closely at the print as they wonder what the words are.
I still decided to keep the graininess of the print as this adds a lot of character to the piece. I also kept the grey border as this encloses the drawing.
