Creating my brand

Daisy Jackson / 13/10/2022

In preparation for December when we sell our end products, Matt explained how important it is to create our own brand and branch ourselves out.

I created my own branding before my foundation year but only started posting towards it during the year itself. I named myself 'Esme.artist'. At the time, this name was very fitting (my middle name followed by artist) as I created more realism pieces which suits the dramatic name. However, since then, my art style has definitely changed and arguably does not suit the name. I could change this, however, I will not. My reasoning for this is the personal associations behind this name. I have had it for so long and have memories attached to it so I would hate to distance myself from this name. It also has the personal element of my middle name which I do quite like.

In the past I have had several logos as well as business cards.

Here are my old logos as well as current:

These were my first logos as during my foundation year, I created my own character which I just named 'dino'. These were reoccuring characters in my work.

My next logo I created was featuring my cat Larry. I love this logo a lot as it was a drawing I did which combined my own art as well as realism. This featured another character I created.

Due to my main social media being Instagram, the profile picture is a circle. I cropped this image into a circle and had it as my logo for a while. I really loved my time figuring out 3D modelling and would love to try it again. This logo represented a period of my art that I really enjoyed.

This is my current logo which is subject to change. I had a phase of finding a photo online and recreating it in my own style. I love the colours and how strange this illustration is which is why I chose it.

CREATING A NEW LOGO

As part of a task set by Matt, this week we have to create a range of new logos for our online presence.

Here are my newly created logos:

As part of the summer project we were assigned a task to create a powerpoint presentation based on our summer. On the first slide we had to either include a picture of ourselves or a drawing. For this logo I took this drawing and added my artist name over the top in my own writing. I chose to do this as it has a personal aspect in both ways - through text and imagery. This could be cropped into a square shape and used as a logo.

Due to my interest in ducks, I decided to include one for a logo design. As a lot of my style is lumpy and includes cigarettes, I decided to combine this with the duck while also including my favourite colour as the background. There are many personal elements to this logo and I am quite fond of it.

This was a drawing from my summer sketchpad that I decided to recreate digitally for this task. I love the combination of effects while also sticking to blocky colours. I am unsure on the way I have wrote my artist name - however, this can be altered later on in the process if I decide to choose this as my main logo.

This is my current logo which I decided to edit. I rounded off the harsh edges and made it even lumpier than it already is while also adding my artist name over the top. This is my personal favourite as it is currently my logo now. This is a strong choice for my selected logo.

Since purchasing a Cricut machine, I realised my colour choices were quite limited. Due to this, I created my designs (for personal use) in one solid colour. Since I want to create T-shirts for my project, I want to stick a logo of mine on the shirt too. This means I would have to keep it one colour consistency.

Because of this, I decided to simplify one of my previous logo designs. I really love the simplicity of it. The name 'Esme.artist' is very clear and you can clearly see my style.

With this one, I altered the inner details by using a smaller brush size. I prefer this logo as I can add more details and the outlines are not too large and overpowering.

This design is definitely my top as it is my personal favourite drawing. I have many emotions and memories attached to this piece which is why I love that it could possibly be my logo. I think I can add a range of colour to this piece as well and I could also crop it or add a circle around it when adding it to my T-shirts/cards/prints.

My final logo choice(s):

This will be my final logo choice for my T-shirt designs. I decided on no colour as it fits the vinyl options better and is less complex while also being great for mass producement.

These will be my logos for the cards/prints, that is, if I do decide to go with colour. I prefer it without as it is more simplistic.

If I decide to go against colour, I will choose this as it is quite minimal but also eye catching and delivers my brand very well.
