Creating a survey for my target audience
Daisy Jackson / 14/10/2022
During the session yesterday with Matt (13/10/2022), we discussed target audience. Despite already thinking of a particular target audience, I did not fully research into what my target audience likes/wants. I am still sticking with my chosen age of 10+ as at the Decemeber fair, adults may be accompanied by children or wish to purchase products for their children.
To further research into my target audience, I conducetd an online survey which was sent out via a link. I will be conducting another survey when actually creating these products as I want my target audience to choose which designs/colour choices etc they like the best. This will guide me into my final outcome.
Here are the results:
Q1 analysis:
For this question, I wanted to see the age of my target audience. This just roughly guides me into knowing the age range and the likeliness of the different ages purchasing my products. From this I can conclude that the age range purchasing my products for themselves or others will be 18-25.
Q2 analysis:
For this question, I wanted to see how many are aware of the book/film 'Warhorse' as this would allow me to understand whether my target audience knew of the storyline or the existence of the book/film. This is important as a key aspect of this project is to communicate parts of the story in my own way while also appealing to a range of audiences.
Q3 analysis:
This question is very important as it will allow me to understand if my target audience actually knows the storyline or not. It appears that 6 individuals have not seen or read Warhorse which means that they will not understand the storyline or know anything about it. The remaining 8 indivudals who answered this question will have an idea on the storyline. This shows me that 57% of my target audience have an idea on the storyline whereas the remaining 43% do not. This means that when creating my product I need to focus on delivering the storyline in a way where everybody will still be interested in the products as this will not limit how many sales I make.
Q4 analysis:
This is also a very important question as it guides me towards the products my target audience are interested in. As a result, I can conclude that 57% of my target audience would want to purchase prints whereas Mugs, T-shirts and Bags are all joined on 36%.
When thinking about my future, I have always wanted to produce my own merch for my art and this even includes making cards for occasions. Due to this, despite cards only recieving 21% of votes, I will still be including them in. However, I will make a decision in the future out of Mugs, T-shirts and bags - which one I would be more willing to choose.
Money is also an important factor within this project so I do not want to be spending too much money on purchasing shirts and so on.
As for the 21% that mentioned none of the above, I will assume this is because they are either not interested in Warhorse or dislike horses. Which is completely fine.
Q5 analysis:
This question allowed me to understand what my target audience looks for in a product when purchasing it. I can conclude from this that the style of the product matters a lot to these individuals. In my next survey, I will be experimenting with a variety of styles which individuals can choose from and decide which they would prefer to buy. This will then guide me into making my products.
The colours are also important which is another experimentation point I can use.
As well as this, I can conlude that the price is important. This will ofcourse be researched into and fairly applied. Supporting the artist was joined with this answer which is comforting.
The contents relate quite closely to the style which will be later experimented with.
As for the rest such as durability and the purpose, my target audience did not seem to ming as much about this which at least does not limit me in my product choices.
Q6 analysis:
This question allows me to understand whether my target audience would still buy a product on something they have less/no knowledge when liking the appearance of it. 71% said they would buy a product realting to Warhorse despite not watching/reading it whereas the remaining 29% said they were either undecided or would not.
This fills me with comfort as it shows that a higher percentage would still purchase the product.
Q7 analysis:
I asked this question as it would make me aware of the way people would purchase the products. I think it would be a good idea to provide individuals the option of both cash and card as this also shows the seperation in age groups as often in current society, everything seems to be technology based and completely contactless.
From these results, I can conclude that I will provide both options. As preperation for this, I will have to bring a change pot incase people only have £20 notes etc.
Q8 analysis:
For my last question, I wanted to know if my target audience would still purchase a product for someone else despite not liking it themselves. The fact 0% answered no is reassuring as this still tells me that my products can interest a range of audiences.
Next steps?
For my next steps, I think generating a range of ideas based on what I have already found out/ discovered from watching/reading Warhorse would be a great idea. This can then prepare me for my next survey where I ask more in depth questions about different styles while eliminating particular
ideas.
I think experimenting with different art styles while also trying out the styles of artists I have looked at would be very interesting and helpful.
